How Do You Rectify Your Pain? | Behind the Scenes with Relentless Joy
About this Episode
Relentless Joy launches on June 20th. As part of the launch, some of Rachel's friends got together to create a Book Launch Team. Rachel has been going into the group live each week to discuss the book and share the stories behind the stories you'll read in the book.
This week:
Rachel talks about staying in Ernest Hemingway's house while on safari in Kenya, a gift from her Aunt Karen. She discovered it was the home of a "rad chick" named Martha Gellhorn, a war correspondent who traveled to war zones and covered conflicts for 60 years.
In this episode, Rachel asks how Martha rectified the polarity of her experiences: to see death and destruction in such an intimate way, etched on the faces of strangers. She says in Relentless Joy, "I thought I was going for a safari. Instead, a gutsy war correspondent reached across history to challenge me to look at the dichotomy of joy and pain in my own life."
