Non-Profit Status: Helper Or Hindrance?

You guys hear me talk a lot about 501(c)(3)s, and a listener asked for some specifics. What does that status really mean, and is it a blessing or a hindrance? Or maybe both? We see churches these days hide behind it and choose not to address difficult issues in the name of not being “political.” But what is really required to maintain that status, and is it becoming an idol?
